Chelsea Summer Show

I went to see my friend's exhibit at the Chelsea end-of-year showcase. I was a bit worried about going alone, and hoped I'd be able to find her work with no problem.

I said, 'Is the show clearly signposted?'
'Will it be clear which way I should go?'
Hmm.

Fixing a Book

I found a book of sweet James Thurber drawings in the Oxfam Bookshop. It's 59 years old. The book was in fair condition but the dustjacket was all tattered and crumbly, so I decided to try and fix it. It's not a great job, but I didn't want to end up spending eight times more on the jacket than I'd spent on the book.

Had to do a bit of patching here and there, I used a brown fineliner and
snippets from bits of the jacket I'd already cut off,
so it should all age at the same rate.

My handwriting is near enough to the calligraphy on the cover that this looks okay.

One of the drawings inside!

Petal Carpet

Today it was overcast and humid, with a few spots of rain during the day which turned into a downpour in the evening. In the park, I saw that a brisk wind had blown the blossom off the trees sideways -- so that it hadn't dropped evenly all around the trunk, but in patches next to the trees; like a bedside carpet made of petals. So I took a snap.

I was a bit disappointed that the weather had made the lighting for these pictures rubbish, but I decided it couldn't be helped. Five minutes later, just as I got back to the office, sharp, clear sunlight burst through the clouds, making everything beautiful. Damn it.

Fall Asleep the Natural Way

This DVD is like a prop from Father Ted:

I just found it on my pillow in my parents' house. No explanatory note. Strange but wonderful.
